Once a volunteer of Freds Korpset had came to HEDO to promote
ecological farming. On that time HEDO was practicing and promoting
vormicultue. The participant gave us a new look about ecological
farming while a one of our staff member assist him he gain knowledge
about ecological farming. The Fk participant (Mr.Yogendra – Nepal)
introduced a new organic manure call NASABIKE which is practice
and promote by Namsaliam community development center in Nepal. |
Then one of Norwegian volunteer (Mr. Perolve alflert -Norway)
came under the Norwegian Development Fund (DF) which is HEDO had
been funded by. He explained well the effect of organic chemicals
in farmland. He said that 'Fossil fuel is being vanished and without
Fossil fuel cannot produce artificial fertilizer, then how could
be able to manage food security’.
HEDO understood well the value of Ecological farming. So the members
of HEDO development groups being converted to Ecological farming.
The members of development group in HEDO are being practiced ecological
farming to reduce the expenditure which is expended on chemical
manure and pesticides for their farm land.

It’s course to reduce the usage of chemical in the farm lands and
save money as well.
HEDO is being conducted a project under UNDP/GEF/SHG/PTF for promote
tropical forest in an area at Sabaragamuwe province in Sri Lanka.
The beneficiaries are Tea growers in small scale. They were adding
a lot of chemicals in their farmland to looking for a better harvest.
They understood the impact of chemical after awareness program conducted
by HEDO. |
Then most of them converted to ecological farming. Because of
that a demand popped up for organic manure.
There for HEDO had been given a ssupport to one of a development
group in Daranniyagal south to start a Manure production unit.
The production unit is producing organic manure and earn well. It
helps to increase daily income of seven families. They collect the
vegetable garbage from the market. Therefore it is helps to keep
the town in clean.
However when the farmers practice Ecological farming it will helps
to reduce chemical consumption, environment pollution, Soil erosion
and also global worming.
